Owner Review: Panerai Submersible PAM682 – It’s a Mini Submarine! I was looking for a quality made dive watch which had a strong heritage, unique design cues, and versatility. I was also seeking an alternative to the Rolex sub and Omega Seamaster. Enter the Panerai Submersible. My favorite watch at the moment is the Panerai 389. It is a great watch and at 47 mm does not wear too big. I like the look of the 682 but at 42 mm is not what I am looking for in a Panerai. I have a 7.5-7.75 wrist depending on the weather and while large it is not too large.
I have tried 40mm,42mm,44mm,45mm, and even 47mm on at my nearest AD in Norwich. Only the 40 and 42mm suited my wrist. Now I know the size needed, I am just trying to narrow down the exact watch. I have the 2007 Panerai catalogue and from that I really like the look of the 48,241 and 244. The submersible is probably the modern interpretation of a Panerai dive watch featuring a rotating bezel. It was introduced in 1998 with a case size of 44mm. Most submersibles were made in 44mm and 47mm until 2017 when they released the PAM682 in a 42mm case to fit men with smaller wrists like mine. Cased in plain brushed steel, on a rubber strap, the PAM 682 is the essence of the Submersible – tool-like, utilitarian and unquestionably Panerai. It’s also 42mm, which opens the traditionally beefy diver up to a whole new audience.
This automatic 4Hz movement sports twin barrels to provide 72 hours of power reserve. Being a base Submersible, the P.9010 needs only offer hours, minutes, sub-seconds at nine, and a date display at three. The case back is of the display variety, allowing a view of the manufacture movement within.
